In 1948, as the British Mandate was terminated, Israel declared independence. for Jewish people, it was a historic event, for centuries of statelessness would come to an end, while for Palestinian Arabs and pan-Arabists it was a symbol of defeat, as the Arab homeland had been split into two by the new state and around 650000 Arabs became refugees as a result of Israeli War of Independence. Here the report from various newspapers about the event in 1948 would be shown.

The first three would be The Times, The Manchester Guardian and The Scotsman, all of which cover the event in inner pages rather than headlines:

The Times’ report. As seen here, both Israeli independence and the fall of Kfar Etzion are reported, as well as the British’ responses to the termination of the Mandate.
The Manchester Guardian’s coverage of the events associated with termination of the Mandate and Israeli independence
The Scotsman’s coverage of the events associated with Israeli independence and British departure

The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, two US newspapers of record, covered the issue in the headlines.

Los Angeles Times’ headlines about the independence of Israel
A (not very clear) page 2 of the same LATimes edition

I cannot find the Page 2 of the NYTimes edition of that day(which contains some extra news about Israeli independence and Arab reactions) or a clear image of Page 1, as both require subscription, but the exact website would be here:

Interestingly, a translation of most parts of Israeli Declaration of Independence is found in The New York Times.

The Palestine Post, the main newspaper of the Yishuv and Mandatory Palestine, covered the issue extensively.

Unfortunately, I could not locate any digital version of the Egyptian Gazette or other Middle Eastern newspapers in English language on that day. I hope that I would be able to compare the view of newspapers in different countries towards Israeli independence.
